It's Cleaning Day for Your Career and Work World! - Full Moon in Capricorn

When you really get down to it, your career is extremely important. Career - basically how you are compensated for your daily contribution to society - has so much to do with your self-image, your self-esteem, the easiness (or hardship) that you encounter as you go through life, and your general level of happiness within your life experience. Though we often casually call how we spend years and years of our lives as "jobs," if we are truly honest with ourselves, the word "livelihood" is much, much more accurate.

So...what's going on with you and your livelihood?

This June brings a new Full Moon into our lives, this one in the sign of Capricorn.

The sign of Capricorn, the Sea Goat, so accurately encapsulates the social, monetary and public experience that is the human work life. Capricorn is all about career, ambition, discipline, responsibility and public status and recognition. Among the highest functioning Capricorns, you will find politicians, social climbers, CEOs, highly paid actors, prominent doctors and other very visible, successful individuals.

One way to really understand what this sign is about is by comparing it to its astrological opposite: the sign of Cancer. Cancer is a Water sign, and is all about finding satisfaction and expression in close, intimate family and friend relationships. Cancer is very inward-facing and a lover of the home.

Capricorn, on the other hand, is ruled by the element of Earth. Unlike Cancer's watery and fluid, flexible mutability, Capricorn is grounded, focused and even stubborn. This sign finds its highest satisfaction and expression in the outside world: the public stage, the corporate global offices, the highest seat of the temple, church or coven ranks.

Ruled by the planet Saturn (which in the old days was once considered to be the most outer and remote planet in our solar system), Capricorn is all about focused determination and hard work. This sign wants to be a success, make a difference and work hard to achieve goals. Capricorn is the High Achiever of the zodiac.

Now, this amazing energy that is in the air also has a darker, shadowy side. It is also a sign of hardship, trials, jealousy, selfishness and scheming, blind ambition. Though it is certainly true that many people born under this sign are high-functioning and accomplished go-getters, there are also a LOT of people born under this sign that wrestle with its shadow: struggle, toil and working hard for little reward.  It can unfortunately bring an energy of melancholy, joylessness and frustration brought on by career failures and lack of getting where you want to be.

So what is with the Full Moon aspect of this cosmic event? The Full Moon is an energetically potent time. It is a turning point in the natural phases of the Moon where it reaches the peak of movement in one direction and then begins to swing back to another direction.

Wheras the New Moon is all about growth, expansion, beginnings and constructive energy, the Full Moon is all about fullness...and then decreasing, waning and "destructive" energy. In other words, the Full Moon is a potent time to work on what I call "Shadow and Light" work. You are going to tackle the darker aspects of your career that you struggling with - including acknowledging your own part in your dissatisfaction - and also bring into the light the things that are going right.

The powerful, magnificent and ancient power of the Full Moon should be used to clean out and reset the mess, debris, parasites and wounds that are simply a part of being a spiritual being in a physical world.

For me, the Full Moon is a rich and wonderful time to bring attention to three vital aspects of our spiritual, emotional and mental self-care:

1. Atonement

2. Forgiveness

3. Gratitude

So let's explore each of these areas in more detail.

First up...

ATONEMENT

So what do I mean when I say "Atonement"? As previously mentioned, the Full Moon is a time in the phase of the Moon when the Moon reaches its peak in moving in one direction, and begins to swing in the opposite direction. That altering of its course is a great signaling time to re-evaluate our own paths. We need to see what is working, see what is NOT working and CHANGE OUR DIRECTION. Atonement, here, is about making wrong things right.

This Full Moon in Capricorn, it is a great time to get focused with your ambitions and goals and ask yourself some tough questions:

1. Am I on the correct career path? If not, why not? What can I do to discover my passions and strengths and excel in these areas? What excuses have I been telling myself that have been preventing me from being in the right career? Is the true reason that I've been stuck in a dead-end career my fear?

2. What am I doing in my career that is not working? Am I working too hard and not getting compensated well enough? Am I working too much and my family life is suffering because of it? Who is to blame for this? (Hint: Look in the mirror first and foremost.) If someone else is also part of the problem, what can I DO to correct this?

3. Am I on target to achieve the career goals that I want? If not, what corrective work do I need to do to get back on track?

4. Are there work relationships that I need to fix? Have I treated co-workers, managers, customers or vendors fairly and with respect? Is there anyone that I need to apologize to?

It's scary work, but this is the time to work on and face some shadowy stuff. But this is SOOO good for you and your spiritual, emotional, mental and even financial health!

And, well, it's going to get scarier, because now it's time to talk about...

Picture
FORGIVENESS

This is a big one. A big, terrifying task that can be just as frightening, cathartic and scary as climbing a mountain or jumping out of a plane.

During our journey on Planet Earth, we can build up a lot of resentment. This hard-to-kill parasite develops when other people do terrible things to us and there is no healing. Instead, the wound festers and the thorn of resentment digs itself deeper and deeper inside of us, hardening our hearts and causing dark and low-frequency energies to take seed within, stifling our spiritual growth and even causing physical problems to manifest. Many, many spiritual (and now even medical) leaders have said time and time again that resentment can actually be carcinogenic, a physical manifestation of a tightly held refusal to release what is essentially emotional poison.

Forgiveness can be incredibly difficult, especially for DEEP, traumatic, violent wrongs that have been committed against you. However, it is vital to your sanity, your personal power, your clarity, your health and your happiness that you forgive. And forgive frequently.

When you hold onto resentment, you relinquish your power to the subject of that resentment. You let them control your thoughts (negative ideas of revenge scenarios, ill will etc. are usually incredibly distracting, emotionally draining and most often a waste of your own precious energy). When you forgive them and release the resentment, you basically cut psychic ties with that person. You will choose to be happy, free and calm in spite of anything they have done or ever could do to you. You choose to be happy and live your life completely FREE of them. The thorn has been extracted from your body, and you can heal fully.

Now, when you forgive someone, it doesn't mean that you are friends. It doesn't mean you need to go out of your way to be Mother Theresa towards them and hug them or hang out or anything like that. It simply means RELEASE. You RELEASE any ill will towards them. You acknowledge that what they did to you what was most likely a continuation of a cycle: they were victimized, and in turn they (knowingly or unknowingly) victimized YOU. Sometimes people do this because they want to gain the power that THEY lost when they were victimized, and sometimes people are just unconsciously repeating the behaviors that they learned. It is not right. But by forgiving and releasing, you are breaking the cycle, freeing yourself and others from further pain.

And finally, don't forget to forgive yourself! All of us at one point in time have harbored self-resentment. We beat ourselves up for mistakes - large and small - that we have made in our lives. During this Full Moon in Capricorn, now is a great time to forgive yourself of all your mistakes, errors and screw-ups that you may or may not have been responsible for in your career and work. Recognize that you're human, and that you're doing the best you can.

Forgiveness is an incredibly courageous act, and when you do it. give yourself a pat on the back, a nice warm bath or a nice chocolate martini. You deserve it!

And finally, after all that Shadow Work, it's time to bring it all back into the Light and have some fun!

GRATITUDE

In the gorgeous, hypnotic voluptuousness of a Full Moon, you should see the beautiful fullness of your own life reflected.

Even though things may not be exactly as you would like, you have things to be grateful for, I promise you! NOW is the time to list those things and give thanks. When you are grateful for what you already have, the Universe will open up and provide more.

I want you to make a list of at least 5 things in the areas of career, work, personal accomplishment and goals that you are thankful for right now. For example, you may not like your job right now, but the fact that you DO have financial income and can afford the things that you can is a celebratory point. What have you done in the past that you are proud of? Count every single thing you can think of. Don't be modest! Now is not the time for that! Especially after all that Shadow Work, it's now time to be unabashed in your appreciation of your life. Don't hold back. If you forgave someone, write down that you are grateful for your own wisdom and strength. Yep, do it. Because it's true!

Wonderful! Do you feel cleaned up, refreshed and invigorated? Go forth, ready to take on your work and career with new energy!

Til next time!
