Hi! Kesha here from New World Tarot! Thank you for joining me once again for another blog. This time, we are experiencing another Full Moon, AND, curiously enough, another Supermoon, which means the Moon is passing a tad closer to the Earth than usual! The last Full Moon that we just had, the Full Moon in Leo, was ALSO a Supermoon of course, and…well, that was an amazing cosmic event as it also happened to be a Full Lunar Eclipse. It was an absolutely AMAZING, magical time like no other, and I was fortunate enough not just to be able to stay up and see it in its amazing, wild, frozen Artic wind beauty, but to also to share that moment with 2 wonderful spiritually-minded friends. I mean, I can still feel that energy, it was wild! And I look forward to experiencing another cosmic event like that! Lunar Eclipses, Solar eclipses, so amazing!
But anyway…! We are moving on to this Full Moon. And this month, the Full Moon lands in the sign of Virgo. So what can we say about Virgo, the Virgin? The symbol of this sign is that of a woman holding a wheat shaft, which itself is a symbol of reaping the benefits of hard work. Virgo is an Earth sign, and as such is known for its down-to-earth practicality, common sense, strong work ethic and efficiency. The motto for Virgo is “I analyze”, and people born under this sign are known for the love of work, service and organization. Or, if they don’t love, chances are they’re still quite good at it anyway, like it or not!
This Full Moon in Virgo, we explore the full and abundant lunar energy in the air right now, Virgo energy, which loves and takes great pleasure in being in service to a greater good. This month, I’d like to ask you, “Who do you serve?”
In our aggressively ambitious Western world, we are most heavily encouraged to be in service to ourselves. Consumerism, capitalism, entrepreneurialism…all these ideals, though certainly not evil within themselves, can encourage emphasis on ourselves. They place the focus on the desires of our ego: gaining more money, more freedom, more possessions and more power for ourselves. In fact, when many of us think of the term “service,” it may actually bring up a negative connotation.
For example, you may think of “Customer Service,” which to many people is basically constantly getting bullied and yelled at and blamed by particularly vile and nasty member of the general public! Or, you may even think of being a “servant,” right? And what image comes to mind there? Someone who is impoverished and all but incarcerated, and who waits hand and foot on wealthier others for meager coins? It’s no wonder that the term “service” is not so sexy or glamorous these days!
But when we talk about service as it relates to Virgo energy, as it relates to cosmic energy in the element of Earth, what we are talking about is the highest and purest and most powerful and life-giving form of service. We are talking about making a gift of a part of ourselves to others who need it. This, in turn, creates a flowing pool of giving and receiving, a flow of energetic balance. This is Service, capital S. :-)
So I ask you this month, “Who do you serve?”
I’d like to talk about a Tarot card for just a bit. This is the Six of Pentacles. Depending on the deck, it is sometimes known as the Six of Coins. Take a close look at this card. What do you see?
In its original and beautiful Rider Waite Smith rendition, we have a picture of what appears to be a stately lord, holding a scale in one hand and passing out coins to beggars with the other hand. Now the suit of Pentacles is ruled by the element of Earth, which is the same element that rules the sign of Virgo. In this instance, we have a beautiful depiction of service. We see a depiction of the old saying, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” This term shows the importance of using what you have – be that your money, your talents, your skills, your tools or your resources – to serve others, to help others and to improve the situation of people who may have none or very little of their own.
Also in this card – and I absolutely love this card – we have the concept of Earthly balance. Notice the scales in the hand of left hand of the lord. Furthermore, the number six is a ruler of this card. The number six is all about balance and peace. Because this card is ruled by the element of Earth, this card can also be said to have a theme of “financial balance,” or “work balance” or simply “balance in the realm of physical manifestation.”
What the Six of Pentacles says is that it’s important to keep the flow of money and work open. It is important to strike a balance between giving and receiving. Service to others is healthy, vital and of the highest spiritual good.
It is important to realize that only using your service for the advancement of yourself is like damning off a stream or a river that flows through your yard because we don’t want anyone else to get any water. You may end up having all the water to yourself. But eventually, the energy of that water is going to get still, then stagnant, then funky-tasting, then downright toxic and dangerous, and, if you survive all that…eventually it will evaporate anyway. All of your efforts to keep your Universe-given resources to yourself will just eventually make you worn-out, sick and ultimately feeling let down and foolish because energetic imprisonment is unnatural to the way the Universe works. The Universe is naturally free-flowing and abundant, and containment is always temporary.
So this Full Moon in Virgo, Who do you serve? What really moves you? Children? Defending the Earth? Defending the Earth’s indigenous peoples or her animals? Social rights? Uplifting the downtrodden? Bringing education to suppressed populations? What really speaks to your heart? In your perfect world, what WOULD be that is not currently? Or what would no longer be that IS currently? When you are passionate about righting a wrong or bringing about big world change in a certain area, you’ve found your Service calling.
Once you’ve found who you want to Serve, you must then decide how you can Serve. What resources do you have to offer to others to help and to bring about change? Money is certainly one powerful resource. But there are so many others. There is of course the classic volunteering that usually includes more manual tasks that anyone can do with no training or work experience or resources at all. But there are so many different ways to be of service. What skills do you have? What are your strengths and talents?
For example, can you write? Perhaps you can take a copywriting course and offer to work on newsletter templates for nonprofits. Or do you have clerical experience? Perhaps you can volunteer to file or straighten up or organize an office for a particular group (Virgos tend to be really good at organization, by the way!). What social connections do you have? Can you introduce people who have a certain need to others who may be able to open those doors for them?
Make no mistake. There is nothing weak about Service. Using your resources for the greatest good of others is a very god-like thing to do. After all, what is the definition of a god but an all-powerful force that uses its resources to help weaker people in need? A god is essentially in service to the people who worship Him or Her, and in turn the people are in Service to the god. Ok? Service is Power. And the Universe loves it when you do this, and as a participant in the natural give/take cycle of the Cosmos, you can certainly expect to be the recipient of some of the Universe’s own supremely powerful and generous giving nature.
As YOU give to others and provide for others for their greater good and elevation, so the Universe will give to YOU and provide for YOU for YOUR elevation. Got it? Good! :-)
Be Blessed, Be Safe and Be Joyous!
This Monday, Feb. 4th brings in another New Moon! I love New Moons! New Moons, to me, are a lot like an astrological spring. The energy can be a lot like getting 12 spring equinoxes in a year. The New Moon is of course the beginning Moon phase, the time of the Moon cycle that starts things anew. The slate has been wiped clean, and it’s time to re-focus, re-energize and re-plan on reaching your goals. Each New Moon is just a wonderful time to declare new intentions, set new goals and re-commit to desires and needs that we may have previously placed on the back burner.
This New Moon arrives in the sign of Aquarius, the Water Bearer. Aquarius, despite its name, is not a Water sign, but is actually ruled by the element of Air. Like the other Air signs, Gemini and Libra, this sign is characterized by an active mind, a gift with communication, and a love of thinking and reasoning and innovation and questioning mainstream values. Of the three Air signs, Aquarius is the arguably the most impactful, the most dynamic and the most unusual. The sign of Aquarius is all about the counterculture mind. Aquarians tend to think differently – bigger – than other people. They tend to question the ideals of the current society.
As far as Aquarians are concerned, just because an idea is accepted currently, doesn’t mean that it is the best way to do things or even that it’s right at ALL. Because those born under the sign of Aquarius so easily embrace outside-the-box thinking and novel, unusual ideas, this sign is the sign most linked with innovation, progressive futuristic inventions and humanitarianism. In other words, Aquarius the Water Bearer is the patron astrological sign of technology and social progression.
Those born beneath the sign of Aquarius tend to live their lives one step ahead of the rest of society. They have confidence that their ideas, though often looked down upon by their current social peers, are actually of value and one day will be appreciated for the truth that is inherent in them. Because of this larger-than-life and individualistic thinking, it’s no surprise that Aquarians tend to march to their own drum beat. They have their own ideas of how to live their lives, and are more than often described as a bit strange by those around them. In fact, being described as “just a bit strange” or “eccentric” is often the best case scenario for Aquarians. Aquarians can be cruelly described as “weirdos”, “freaks,” “oddballs,” and the like.
But the lesson that the sign of Aquarius brings is that individualism is needed for the progression of humanity. If we all think the same, act the same, go after the same things, accept the same ideas as unquestioned truths, then invention cannot occur. Social change cannot occur. Diseased cannot be cured. Unfair laws can’t be stricken down. Tyrants cannot be challenged and pulled down from power. The strange thoughts, the different paths taken, the challenging of authority…All these things make humanity’s improvement possible. The sign of Aquarius teaches us that human change and improvement begins at the individual level. It begins when one human – like you – thinks differently than the masses, WANTS differently than the masses, and ACTS differently than the masses. It’s a contagious individualism that starts with one person and spreads out to the greater population, connecting people and waking people up to the courageous realization that they are not the only ones to desire change and to feel differently than how they are “supposed” to feel.
In other words, humanity needs you to be strange, to be weird and to question the status quu. AND this will naturally happen when you are yourself. It just feels good! And it feels good because it’s natural, and the world needs your unique, one-of-a-kind perspective. Don’t hide it!
So we live in what is arguably one of the most “Aquarian” nations in the world today. We, ideally, as Americans, celebrate and idolize the path of the visionary, the entrepreneur, the iconoclast. In the United States, for example, it is much easier and more comfortable to express an alternate sexual preference, an alternate religion, an alternate and more extreme fashion sense, or an alternate social or political viewpoint.
However, having an ideal be glorified by a culture and that culture actually idealizing it are not one and the same. You only need to ask someone who lives courageously counterculture to society’s rules to see how hard living truly as yourself can be.
This New Moon in Aquarius, I want you to re-examine the question, “Am I living true to myself?” Even in our freedom-loving society, the pressure to conform and be what others expect you to be is incredibly strong. You have only to look around at our society and see how so many of us are doing the same things, chasing the same goals, going through the same motions. If you’ve ever sat in Rush Hour traffic and stared about at all the other cars, all heading to corporate work at the same time, or all heading home from corporate work at the same time…then you’ve seen this in action.
Now, I’m not saying that you should abandon your goals or dreams or lifestyles just because a lot of other people are doing them. If a healthy choice that you are making feels really good for you and is what you actually enjoy, then by all means keep doing that! However, what I do want you to ask is, “Are you doing what everyone else is doing because it feels good and natural and blissful and right for you, OR are you doing it because everyone else is, or because that is what is expected of you, or because you can’t think of anything better to do?”
A simple way to know if you are living your authentic, unique truth is to ask yourself, “How do I feel about my life?” Do you wake up happy and looking forward to you day? How do you feel at the end of your day? Do you happy with the work and the decisions you’ve made? Are you surrounded by the relationships and people that understand you? An even bigger question: “If you continued living your life the way you are right now, at the end of your time on Earth, would you have regrets? Would you feel fulfilled, proud, victorious and happy, or would you bemoan a life half-lived, a life where you didn’t be or do what you wanted?” If the latter is true, you most likely are not living this life as fully YOU. You are likely hiding a part of yourself or playing small, and this is often to fit in with the world around you.
This New Moon in Aquarius, I want you to recommit and set an intention to live more fully as yourself. I want you to follow your own drum more. Pay attention when you feel more passionately about certain things. You are drawn to certain things for a reason, no matter if its art, animals, Gothic fashion, cake decorating human rights, sexual education.
Pay attention to what draws you, what you are passionate about, and allow yourself to be how you are. Allow yourself to follow your own path more, and be open to examining why you are drawn to the things you are. Ask yourself how you can use the things that fascinate and drive you to make the world a better place, a more beautiful place, a sexier place, a smarter place, a better dressed place, whatever world improvement means to YOU. Our world cannot change and cannot improve if we remain clones of each other and chase the same things and all like the same things and all do the same things.
There are so many of us that are beautifully different, and yet so many us are afraid to be different. We’re afraid of ridicule, or social ostracization or rejection. Being yourself will require courage. There is no doubt about that. But it’s so important, and I promise you at the other end of this journey, you will feel so much better for being yourself. This New Moon in Aquarius, I ask that you challenge yourself to be uniquely YOU more in life. Follow your own voice, follow your own path and chase your own desires. The evolution of our world depends on your unique thinking and ideas.
